This blog was born out of a curiosity I have for the world around me and a desire to contribute my thoughts and observations to a topic that, unfortunately, is not that well-known. I have a deep interest in learning as much about the world as possible. Every area of knowledge meaningfully enriches our lives a bit. The more we know and the more we consume other people’s stories, the more empathetic we become. Reading opens us up to new ideas and perspectives. Moreover, experiencing the world first-hand provides us with the perfect complement to the stories we consume. This blog aims to combine my love of learning and reading with personal experiences.
I’m viewing Aotearoa New Zealand through the eyes of someone of Mexican heritage who was born and raised in Southern California. I double majored in history and geography at the University of California, Los Angeles and obtained my master’s in library science from San José State University. In addition to history and geography, I enjoy learning about economics, sociology, and political science. I passionately enjoy libraries and reading.
Looking at Aotearoa, I see a mirror of my own society. Like the US, it’s a land of peoples with deep ties to the land and immigrants who have been coming to seek new opportunities at the end of the world. I see my family’s experience in the stories of Māori and Pasifika and Asian immigrants. I look forward to reading, learning, and experiencing all of Aotearoa and sharing it with the reader.
